Then & Now

Then & Now – We were allowed to borrow and post today’s vintage photo (on the left) from friends and they believe that this photo has a connection to their family. On the back of the photo is written: “Dad’s Uncle Lewis Keller house on So. Washington St.”. There wasn’t an address given for this house on S. Washington Street, but it was easy enough to find this same house with a quick drive down the street. The photo on the right is how this house looks today and the address is 626 S. Washington St. in Tiffin, Ohio.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any history on this beautiful home, but we did some research by going through Tiffin city directories from the 1890’s to the 1960’s. We first checked through the directories for the name on the back of the photo: “Lewis Keller”, and we didn’t find any listing where he had ever lived at 626 S. Washington St. The earliest occupant that we found of this home was Frank Glenn from 1911 to 1914. Then, over the next 50 years, we found that the occupants living there changed seven more times.

We’re guessing that the vintage photo was possibly taken around 1915 to 1920, based on the way the photo was mounted to the cabinet card, and based on the style of clothing that the people are wearing on the porch. For the most part, this house retains much of its original architecture, but once again, we’ve discovered another home where the beautiful porch has been partially removed sometime during its history. If anyone knows of any history on this home, the family who owns this photo would love to learn more.
